Good morning! We start the day in the European Union, where the bloc is already looking to add exceptions to its just-launched carbon tariff. Alexander C. Kaufman breaks down the proposed change, which could have sweeping climate and economic consequences.

 

Next, we’re back stateside in New Orleans, where a plan is in the works to bring tons of battery backup power to the storm-prone city. Julian Spector has that story.

 

And Maria Gallucci reports on an unfortunate turn for green-steel startup Boston Metal, which will lay off 71 U.S. employees after an industrial accident derailed a major funding deal.

OVERSIGHT

  • The Interior Department says it’s completed a major rollback of National Environmental Policy Act regulations that will help speed energy, mining, and other projects. (The Hill)

  • Rivian and EnergyHub partner on a utility-managed charging program, in which Rivians will be available as dispatchable resources to more than 70 utilities using EnergyHub’s grid management platform. (Latitude Media)

DATA CENTERS

  • A new report suggests as much as half of the data centers planning to come online this year may not materialize amid construction delays and a power supply bottleneck. (Sightline)
  • Democrats looking to attract support in tightly contested congressional races are campaigning on promises to balance the dangers and promise of data centers. (E&E News)
